Hey Barghash - Joanita writes:-Remember this from 2005?When I saw the video (see attached below) - halwa with badams in coconut palm leaf packages - it brought back sweet memories of Zanzibar halwa.
Wondering if al-Barwani Trading still makes and ships their halwa after all these years.
You had sent delicious Omani halwa, in 3 of these trays, all the way to Toronto from Oman (via Eustace in Seattle) for the Gala Dance dessert table... Unfortunately, because of its circuitous route, it didn't make it there on time. In fact, a couple of days later, while we were having breakfast in the hotel dining room before we left for home, the box with its delicious contents was delivered.
We borrowed a knife and some foil from the kitchen, cut it up into chunks, wrapped them in foil, and handed them to those still at the hotel waiting to leave for home. Some more chunks were sent to donors whose contributions helped make the Reunion such a memorable success. My chunk stayed in the freezer - I savored little bits of it over a year. It was the last time I had authentic Omani halwa. (sigh)We did make wonderful memories way back in Toronto. Every time I serve anything on this oval platter it brings back very fond memories.Jo

Les. Gonsalves post
Thanks for the refresher memories to the great time at the reunion. And thanks again to all who made it a success. And to you Bargash, for putting the “sweetness” touch to conclude a wonderful and memorable week. Such lasting memories will remain forever.
